Im gonna go ahead and tell you now that your favorite part of all this is going to be the reversing of the fridge door to open away from your cooking and prep surfaces.

Looks awesome!

I'm still incredibly bummed out that I forgot to buy the kitchen island when it was for sale in my shop. Not enough bells? I'll come back later!

Saves and goes to bed

Outfit My Kitchen: This Is What I Cook - What Do I Need/Want

Main Post:

This is my 3rd topic on here, and my last I promise.

I have nothing except a kettle, French press, and a 9" cast iron pan. Finally getting my own house and my former housemates are keeping everything else so I am needing to outfit my kitchen.

I cook simple meals IF style: Chicken Breasts, some kind of beef (top sirloin, eye of round), and organ meats. I follow this with an egg dish. Usually fritattas, sometimes omlettes, or hard boiled eggs (when I'm exceptionally lazy/tired). I usually eat my leafy green veggies raw, but sometimes I lightly steam broccoli to put in my fritattas.

I want quality goods that will last a lifetime, and it does not need to be budget minded (but I don't want to pay for a name, just quality)

What do I need, and where should I buy it from? I'd like to keep it simple and minimalist.

Here's what I'm thinking so far:

  • x4 each plate, bowl, drinking glass, coffee cup
  • Silverware
  • Small & medium saucepan
  • 8" and 12" Fry Pan (no teflon)
  • 8" Chef's knife (I like the Richmond Laser AS Gyuto, but OOS),
  • Paring knife (I'm thinking Victorinox)
  • Steak knives
  • Silicone 1 piece spatulas
  • Spring loaded tongs
  • Salad spinner
  • Can opener
  • French wisk
  • Measuring cups/spoons
  • Mixing bowls
  • Chopping board (1 wood, 1 plastic)
  • Steamer basket
  • Colander

  • A baking sheet if you have an oven. Roasting veggies (broccoli, asparagus, green beans, peppers, eggplant, carrots, etc) at 400 degrees with olive oil, salt, and pepper until they're golden brown is far more delicious than steamed veggies.
  • a large stock pot for making soup, stock, or pasta.
  • one good cast iron pan (lodge is affordable and pretty durable). This is great for searing meats at a high temperature.
  • a cheese grater. Besides for cheese, it can be used for grating carrots or zucchini to throw into a salad, carrot/zucchini bread, or zucchini fritters.

Keep in mind you can always add items as you find you need them. This looks like a good start for now.

Has anyone seen the Australian show My Kitchen Rules? If so, what's it like and does it compare to Masterchef Australia?
